Hours & Getting in Touch
Part-Time Schedule: While MacNeil Industries is getting established, for the moment it’s a part-time venture. Therefore, hours and availability vary week to week.
By Appointment: Please give us a shout by phone or email to book a spot before swinging by. Because we’re not in the shop full-time, we can't always accommodate surprise drop-ins, but will do our best to find a time that works for both of us!
Rates
Shop Rate: Standard fabrication and repair work is $100/hour pre-tax. This includes welding consumables e.g. welding gas, filler rod, grinding discs, electricity, premise etc.
Mobile Welding: If we need to pack up the gear and come to you, the rate is $150/hour pre-tax, plus travel time.
Large Jobs: We may ask for a deposit or payment of materials once they’ve arrived.
Very Small Jobs: Payment by donation!
Materials
Kaslo effect: As you may know, getting materials to Kaslo can be a bit tricky and/or expensive. I do try to keep stock of common thickness and profiles and make large bulk orders a couple of times per year.
Urgent Jobs: If your project needs to be done right away, we’re happy to order in the materials, but you will need to cover the extra delivery/freight fee.
Bring Your Own: To save time and money, you’re more than welcome to source and supply your own materials! Just make sure they are clean, safe, and ready to weld. If you’re supplying your own material, make sure you get all the components for the job, which we can assist with ordering. Another way to save money is once materials are ordered, you pick up the order yourself.
Custom Fabrication
Send Photos: If you are able to snap a few clear photos of your project or ideas and text/email them through before we meet. It helps determine if I am actually able to help you.
Show Me a Diagram: If we are building something brand new from scratch, a simple sketch, mud map, drawing, or diagram with exact measurements is very helpful. We want to make sure we build exactly what’s in your head, so having it on paper keeps us both happy! Provide as much info as possible.
Repairs
We love keeping repairs budget-conscious for our customers. The best way to keep your bill down is to do the prep work before you bring it to us:
Send Photos: If you are able to snap a few clear photos of cracked welds or whatever needs repairing and text/email them through before we meet. It helps determine if I am actually able to help you before you make the trip here.
Clean it up: Good welds require clean metal. Dirt, rust, grease, oil, paint, and water all mess with the weld quality. Please thoroughly clean the area that needs fixing.
Strip it down: If you're bringing in a boat or a vehicle component, please remove the motor, seats, fuel lines, flooring, or electronics beforehand.
If we have to spend shop time de-greasing, cleaning, or taking things apart to weld safely, that time will be billed at the standard shop rate.
Design & Safety
We’re Not Engineers, but we can offer plenty of practical guidance based on experience, like suggesting material thicknesses or tweaking a design layout. However, if your project needs to meet particular specifications in any way please provide an engineered blueprint.
